One of the seniors called me on the phone, which is mistake number one. Well, two. Calling me is a mistake because I'm not friendly, but so is answering it. I shouldn't answer the damn thing. She asked me, without telling me who she was, which is mistake number three, I hate that. She blurts out "How much would you charge me for making copies of my Life Story". I stutter uh uh uh copies? I think of copies on the copy machine... so I said uh uh uh .5 cents? She said "Great!", and she'll bring it down to me. I hang up and wonder why the hell she can't make her own damn copies, but maybe it'll become clear when she gets here.
She handed me pages and pages of paper, typewritten, front and back, no paragraphs or punctuation, and asked that I re-do it for her, with the spelling corrections of course. The light dawns... she wants me to re-type her pages, and THEN make copies of it on my computer. When she says "copies", she really means "print". So I told her she could take it to a copy machine herself, and she said "Great!" and shoved the papers at me.
Since I like to type, I didn't think too much of it. That is... not until I closed the door and walked to my computer...... ohhhhhh... she wants me to re-type her pages, correct her sentence structure, correct her spelling, and correct her punctuation on 22 pages, front AND back, and use my ink to make "10 copies of each" for .5 cents a copy. Right.
These seniors. They're so tricky.
.
I once helped a friend out this way. Big mistake. She liked her awkward structure and misspelled words. I would have saved myself a lot of time by showing penciled corrections on her original work for her approval.

No, I decided to be passive-aggressive about it. I said yes, but I haven't touched it yet.
Forty year olds... not so dumb. Heh.
